Sicily Island, LA
Unusually cool temperatures for this time of year greeted just under 200 racers in Sicily Island, LA for Round 7 of the Louisiana Cross-Country (LACC) Series – The Jim Bowie II. Tropical Storm Lee dropped over 6 inches of rain during the week prior making ground conditions ideal for racing.
In the XC1 class, Jake Haddox (KTM/Brewton Insurance/Soil Stabilizers) grabbed another holeshot with the help of a nice watered-down line in the sandy soil. Haddox led the group of experts after the first lap followed by Jason Harvey (SUZ) and Andy Beebe (KTM.) Not long afterwards, at only 15 years old, Cheyenne Harmon (HON) making his third LACC appearance began impressing the crowd while working his way up through the pack. Harmon, while in fourth place after the first lap, passed everyone, led the remainder of the race, and cruised in for the overall and XC1 win with minutes to spare. "I've got to thank my Mom & Dad and my Grandma for getting me that new bike, its been awesome and a huge blessing," said Harmon while on the podium. "Thanks to DT1 Air Filters, Motorex Oil, Fox, Shift, Speed Graphics, and just anyone else I might have forgotten thank you".

KTM pilot Bubba Henry (Gaerne/SLM
Racing/Munn/Spy) worked his way into second place by lap three and
held on to the position until the checkered flag came into sight.
KTM rider Andy Beebe (Team 3/4 / MTA / Scott Equipment) secured another podium finish with third place
overall. Sixteen year-old Hutton Woods (KTM/Mike's
Outdoors/Woods Tank) had one of his best
finishes of the year finishing fourth just shy of a podium spot in
the XC1 class and in the overall.

Although the majority of the course was reversed from round five earlier in the season, the optional Fair Diesel Hillclimb was arranged as usual with just a slightly different approach. Spectators were entertained throughout the day and great coverage of this event is currently being posted on www.AcadianaRacing.com! |
