Dubach, LA

Once again near perfect ground conditions greeted just under 250 racers from all over the South; this time at Round 4 of the Series – “The Big 8”.  Racers from Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, etc. joined in the fun ripping around the beautiful open hills of North LA.  The Big 8 in Dubach was voted Best Venue in 2010 and based on the smiles after the event this just might be the case again in 2011.  Predictions of this round's winner were beginning to float around during the previous week but everyone was in for a nice surprise!

For just the second time in LACC history an XC2 Lites rider starting from the second row took the overall victory.    Top OMA Nationals Team Green Kawasaki Pro Michael Williams (pictured) from TN backed by Midsouth Motoplex, Performance Super Cycles, BHR, Enduro Engineering, X-Brand, and many more got a decent start, quickly moved to the front of his class, then began to work his way past all of the XC1 riders.  Williams was able to zap 2-time World MX Champ Trampas Parker (now in his forties, over double the age of 18 year-old Williams) but it didn't last.  Defending Series Champion Parker (KTM/Munn/TCP MX Schools/Arai/Fly) is a racer at heart so picked up the pace, passed the young gun back, held off pass

attempts, and eventually came through the checkers 1 second ahead of Williams.  Williams still took the overall win on adjusted time and earned the majority of the purse money.  While being interviewed on the podium AMA Hall of Fame legend Parker commented, “…you never stop learning, when I did get to follow this guy around [pointing to Williams] I learned something, I thought I was going fast…watching him go through the woods, the speed he was going, and the smoothness, it was great…”

Jake Haddox #44 XC1 Class Holeshot
Spectators were excited to see this go down in addition to local hero Jake Haddox (KTM/Brewton Insurance/MTA) snagging the XC1 holeshot / leading the first lap, Ryan Breaux (KTM/Performance Cycles/Chuck’s Used Appliance) taking the XC2 Lites holeshot, and many riders gave it their all on the “Mike's Outdoor Drop-Off” and the “Southern Trophy Hillclimb”!

Once again Cody Potts (YAM/Moose) came over from Texas to take 2nd in the XC1 class / 3rd Overall fighting back from a bad start.  Potts was followed by another Texas racer Bryan Vaughan (Warren Drilling / Asterisk / Vertex / Ricochet / 7L Race Gas) 3rd XC1 / 4th Overall.

In the XC2 Lites class Jason Reine (KTM/Moose/FMF) finished in second place and rookie Zach Rambin (KTM/Mike’s Outdoor) rounded out the Lites podium in third.  Congrats to another young gun and XC1 rookie Hutton Woods (KTM) of the Mike’s Outdoor team for finishing in 5th Overall even with a broken shift lever.  Woods was one second ahead of current championship points leader Jason Harvey (SUZ).  Harvey was running up front in second and third overall early on until arm pump and other problems set in sliding him back to sixth but he still has the points lead and the target on his back.
