The 2011 Louisiana Cross-Country Series
kicked back off after the summer break at the beautiful Spring Hill
Plantation in Wilson, LA. As usual this venue near the
Louisiana’s state capital, Baton Rouge, was very well attended
drawing over 500 participants and spectators. Two local
newspapers were even on hand to cover the action. In addition
to the usual dirt bike motos the first ever Saturday evening bicycle
race and foot race was a huge hit and all participants were awarded
a trophy afterward. The large crowd also lucked out with a
nice break from the intense southern heat; lower humidity and breeze
helped out tremendously.

The pre-race favorite, GNCC Pro
Morgan Moss (FAR Husqvarna), came through once again
with a convincing win. Moss started on the second row
in the XC2 Lites class this go round and found himself in
the overall lead by lap three and never looked back.
During the post-race interviews Moss jokingly thanked the
Feliciana Parish Police Jury for keeping his home practice
sessions going; at least for now. He also made sure to
thank all of his sponsors and mechanic. Left: Moss was flying - Shows Photo |
Top XC1 rider from Pittsburg, TX and past multi-time Arkansas champ Bryan Vaughan (Asterisk / House of Horsepower / FMF / DP Brakes / System Tech Racing) was happy to put his KTM on top of the XC1 class podium and finish second overall behind Moss. Considering Moss isn’t chasing the championship points, this was basically an overall win for Vaughan.
|
KTM pilot Andy Beebe (Team ¾ /
Scott Equipment) blasted off the XC1 line to grab the
holeshot and led for the first two laps holding off a
hard-charging Jake Haddox (KTM / Brewton Insurance / Soil
Stabilizers). Once the dust settled Beebe finished 2nd
place in the XC1 class and third overall. Right: LACC Series front-runner #30 Bryan Vaughan can consider this result an overall win - Shows Photo. |

The final podium spot in the XC1
class went to current overall championship points leader
Jason Harvey (SUZ / Cycle Gear) who has been riding
smart and consistent. Harvey is leading Haddox by
fourteen points followed by John McLemore (YAM). As noted above Moss won the XC2
Lites class and the outright overall. Beyond that
Yamaha YZ125 pilot and motocross talent Forrest Smith (City
Cycles) finished in second edging out 3rd place
Evan Shows (Mike’s Cycle Supply / Factory Backing / Shea
Racca / MX Prints.com / Scott).
