Round 2 of the 2011 Louisiana Cross-Country Series, Van Way Moto Playground, was held under breezy sunny skies and in front of a large group of spectators. The nice watered motocross track, the Pierce & Shows Ramp Crossing, the Spectro Culvert Jump, the fun woods sections, various unique bridges, etc. offered a ton of fun for the riders and entertainment for the crowd on hand.
ThermoProbe/Klim/Revloc/Thumper Racing’s Stephen Sturges (KTM) took the holeshot in the highly competitive XC1 class. Young XC1 rookie Jake Haddox (KTM/MTA/Brewton Insurance) put himself in the lead at the end of lap 1 but shortly afterward couldn’t hold off the hard-charging Suzuki pilot Jason Harvey. Once in the lead Harvey seemed to be able to put it in cruise control for the remaining 5 laps to take the checkers and win the majority of the $500 cash purse. Texas off-road ace Cody Potts (YAM) had a bad start but picked off riders the entire hour and a half to earn an impressive 2nd place finish. Jake Haddox kept it pinned to land the final podium spot in 3rd and take home his share of the purse. Runner-up at round 1 Andy Beebe (KTM) was running a strong pace but unfortunately suffered a mechanical DNF after a few laps in. Round 1 winner and defending champion Trampas Parker (KTM) couldn’t attend this round but will be ready for action at the next one. Only 8 out of the 10 rounds count toward the year-end championship so almost all of the riders still have a shot.

In the XC2 Expert Lites class Jason Reine
(KTM/Moose/FMF) and Ryan Breaux (KTM/Chuck’s Used
Appliance/Performance Cycles) came into the first turn bar-to-bar,
Breaux slid out, and Reine was off! Breaux showed a great
example of determination by putting his head down and fighting back
through the large pack of XC2 riders up to 2nd place at
the end of lap one. He then passed Reine and led for the
remaining five laps to take the class win. Reine held in there
for second place and young XC2 Lites rookie Zach Rambin (KTM)
finished in third. This is the exact same top three class
results as round 1 so Breaux will definitely have a big target on
his back at round 3.

Among the intense racing action one of the
highlights of the weekend was SideLineFilms grouping all of the
youth riders together to yell, “we just wanna ride” for a video that
will be submitted to the AMA. The video is regarding the AMA’s
fight against the ridiculous lead law / ban of kid-sized bikes.
Please do your part by joining the AMA! As always picture / video
links can be found on our website and even more coming soon!
