After a one month break, racers were back out to enjoy Round 5 of the LACC Series at Juderman’s Park in Pineville, LA.   For the first time in LACC series history, times were adjusted to make accommodations to better handle the near one hundred degree temperatures.

The sponsoring group, Team ¾, laid out a fun, technical, traditional style woods course that was roughly 4 ½ miles.  Most of the course was dusty, but portions of the new single track were nice.

Once again Forrest Smith (YAM/Fly/Bayou Suspension) nailed the hole shot in the XC1 class on his Yamaha YZ250 rocket ship.  Smith put the hammer down and stretched out an early lead with clear vision.  Jason Harvey (KTM/Cycle Gear/RaceWorks/Tubliss) was running in second for the first three laps until Martin Howell (SMS KTM/JM Suspension / Answer / Motorex / FMF) got by him and closed in on Smith.  On the last lap, Howell made an impressive last-ditch-effort pass attempt on Smith blowing through two tight trees, briers, vines etc. but couldn’t quite make the pass.  Smith put in another strong ride the entire race to take another overall victory followed by Howell in second.  Jason Harvey also had a good ride on his new KTM 300 finishing on the podium in third.  Bryan Vaughan (Pivot Works/Vertex Pistons/DP Brakes/SMS/Graham KTM) and Evan Shows (KTM/Mike’s Cycle/KTM/Pierce and Shows) rounded out the top five in the XC1 class and overall.

Corey Altazin (KTM/Fly/WPS) won the XC2 class followed by Clint Woods (KTM/Mike’s Outdoor/Wood’s Tank) and Jacob Wheat (KTM/Bayou Suspension).  At the end of the second to last lap Woods was pressuring Altazin following by only one second, but Altazin put his head down and stretched out a half minute lead taking the win.  Altazin leads the points chase half way through the season.

The Acadiana Racing crew would like to give a special thanks to Team ¾ for going the extra mile to help put on this event.  See ya’ in September!  As always check our homepage often for links to photos, videos, and more.
