South Louisiana's Ryan Breaux grew up
riding in the woods, raced motocross for years, finished
second place in the 2009 LA Cross-Country Series' XC2 Lites
class / 4th Overall, then most recently won the XC2 Lites

On getting started:
RB: Yes, I first started riding in the woods. My parents took us camping in Forest Hill [central Louisiana Nat'l Forest trails] all the time when I was little. My dad rode me around on his bike from the time that I was big enough to hold on to the handlebars. That’s how he would put me to sleep when we were camping. We rode for fun, not to race. When I turned 16, I had an itch to ride four-wheelers. I bought a Honda 400EX, and rode that for two years in the woods. Then, when I turned 18, I realized I born to be on two-wheels. That was about the time Honda came out with the CRF250R. I actually got the first one that Honda of Lafayette sold. I started racing motocross on that. I stayed on that model bike until 2009 when I switched to the KTM 200XC (which I am currently racing).
Memories from the 2010 season: The thing I remember most was the Hall’s Hazard race. I was able to, not only race, but also spend time trick-or-treating with my son for his first time. It was a great weekend. |
During the MX
years what was your favorite track and why? My favorite place to ride has always been Forest Hill. We went there so often when I was young. When I started racing, I’d have to say my favorite track was Kentwood. Even though I had my fair share of injuries and hospital visits there, the track had the best natural terrain in the state. Plus, the soil was a nice mixture of sand and red dirt.
Now that you’ve raced both mx and cross-country / enduro which do you like better? LACC’s cross-country would be my favorite, because you get a little bit of both. It’s like having the things I love about motocross and enduro riding in one race. I don’t have to choose just one style anymore. |
Would you suggest mx’ers try it out for training or just for fun? LACC’s cross-country style is definitely a good training deal. It helps riders build endurance. However, it is also good to try if you are looking for something new and fun. Either way, I would highly recommend it to riders of all ages and skill levels, no matter if they normally ride in the woods or on the track. It has a little something for everyone. |
When asked about
upcoming goals, Breaux kept it short & sweet: My goals are to defend my XC2 Championship Title and to place in the top three overall at some events. |
Thanks for taking the time Breaux
and good luck in 2011!
